Trust us, it’s not just you—we’re also feeling the ongoing, daily escalations and attacks by immigration enforcement in our communities, and it’s kept us busy all month long.

From back-to-back actions denouncing the militarized presence of these ICE raids, to pushing Congressmember Derek Tran to take a stronger stance in protecting those who are most vulnerable right now, to having our volunteers canvass in Little Saigon, and helping launch the OC Community Self-Defense Coalition to protect our neighborhoods—on top of all that, we’ve also begun searching for an Administrative Intern to join our team.

Next Community Patrols Training: Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 6:00pm

VietRISE with coalition partners have launched the OC Community Self-Defense Coalition! The OCCSDC’s purpose is to defend our communities against immigration enforcement by patrolling our Little Saigon & Little Arabia neighborhoods, documenting abductions, and providing resources for people to defend themselves.

VAHSA Supply Drive

The Vietnamese American High School Alliance (VAHSA) organized a supply drive to support immigrant families in Orange County, providing essential items and nonperishable food for those who don’t feel safe to leave their homes due to increased ICE presence in OC. VAHSA and VietRISE coordinated this supply drive this past weekend and will donate all items to Delhi Neighborhood and OC Mutual Aid, who will distribute them directly to community members. Thank you to everyone who donated items!

Support for Vietnamese Community Members in the Immigration System

This online guide is for Vietnamese community members in OC facing deportation or supporting loved ones through the process. It includes info on legal resources, record requests, and advocacy efforts.

Our staff have been working with and providing accompaniment to community members facing detention and deportation, as Vietnamese community members across the country have reached out with questions about their case as immigration enforcement increases nationally. We share information about the history of deportations to Viet Nam from the US, review potential pathways for community members to defend against deportation, and connect people directly to pro bono attorneys.

July 5th Emergency Mobilization: ICE out of OC

This past month, we have seen ICE and federal agents violently abduct immigrants all over Orange County. In the past several days they have specifically targeted community members in Anaheim and Garden Grove. As a community, the OC Community Self Defense Coalition, which VietRISE is a steering committee member of, held an emergency action in Garden Grove near Home Depot. Learn more about the action by checking out our Instagram, and listen to the speech our executive director, Tracy La, gave about refusing to be spectators, unity, and ICE out of Little Saigon.

Congressmember Derek Tran: Stand With Immigrants, NOT ICE!

Congressmember Derek Tran campaigned on a powerful refugee story familiar to many of us living in Little Saigon. But since taking office, Tran has consistently voted in support of anti-immigrant bills. He voted to pass the Laken-Riley Act and most recently, he voted for a resolution that praised ICE, even as ICE raids tore through neighborhoods in his own district.

On June 18, VietRISE and community allies rallied in front of Phước Lộc Thọ, calling on him to take real action to protect immigrant communities. We thank the 13 community organizations, including the Harbor Institute, Councilmember Thai Phan, and Trustee Walter Muneton, who stood with us in demanding justice and for Congressmember Tran to do better for immigrant communities.

Sign the petition to demand that Rep. Tran stop backing Trump’s mass deportation and racial profiling agenda — and start defending our communities.

Welcome our 2025 Youth Cohort to the Tự Lực School for Organizing!

During the program’s first two weeks, participants explored the history of ethnic studies, the Vietnamese American identity, and what organizing looks like in diaspora. They also went on a People’s Tour of Little Saigon. As they walked through local spaces, they learned about the pivotal events and leaders who shaped Little Saigon into the vibrant community it is today. We look forward to witnessing their growth as advocates for positive social change.

ABC 7: OC's Little Saigon community leaders demand end to ICE raids, call out Congressman Derek Tran

The group, led by the organization VietRISE, specifically calls out one of its elected representatives for not doing enough to protect immigrants in the community.

“Derek Tran, you are the definition of a disappointing elected official. You campaigned on a beautiful, powerful story of refugee resilience, but you’ve used that power that you built off of our communities to harm immigrant communities today,” Tracy La, executive director of VietRISE said.

Voice of OC: Will Little Saigon Finally Get an Archway as Businesses Reel From ICE Raids?

While the most vulnerable members of our community are under attack by federal immigration enforcement and separated from their families, the Westminster City Council continues to prioritize symbolic gestures in the city.

Thank you OC Department of Education and Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum (VAEMC) for joining us on a People’s Tour of Little Saigon!

In partnership with OCDE & VAEMC, we hosted a walking tour of Little Saigon with local K-12 educators earlier in June. Learning about the local history and the contemporary issues of the Little Saigon community, we engaged these educators to better understand the local contexts they teach in and their students’ experiences.

Thank you for being a part of our community,

– The VietRISE Team
