Garden Grove, CA — On Tuesday evening, community leaders, educators, elected officials, and medical professionals across Orange County are convening a multicultural press conference to address the local impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and to take a stand against the rapid increase in the racism and xenophobia perpetuated against Vietnamese, Asian, and immigrant residents in Orange County, CA.

Speakers will lay out their vision for the county and demands for local elected officials, including the Orange County Board of Supervisors and Governor Newsom, to take action to protect the most vulnerable communities in Orange County during this time. The group is encouraging local residents to remain calm, informed, and will disseminate a call to action sign-on letter addressed to officials across the county that local residents and organizations can sign onto. Calls to action demands include:

1. Provide transparency and frequent updates on all County Government plans to address and prevent the outbreak and its impact on local residents

2. Enact a moratorium on rent increases, utility shut offs, late fees, and evictions for renters and small businesses

3. Provide immediate adequate free virus test kits and installing drive-up centers for easy testing across the county regardless of insurance or immigration status

4. Prevent virus spreading by protecting individuals in county prison and city jails 5. Provide active direct care and testing for unhoused, senior, and disabled residents

Speakers and organizers of the event include VietRISE, Chispa, CA Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative, healthcare professionals, OC teachers, students, Garden Grove City Council Member Thu-Ha Nguyen, Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees President Walter Muneton, and more.
