Our work

What We Do

ADVANCING IMMIGRANT JUSTICE

We believe migration is a human right and our systems, policies and culture must reflect that. We organize to advance immigrant justice and we support the leadership of people from immigrant communities through skills-training programs and campaigns.

Our work includes:

  • Participatory defense campaigns to free people from immigrant detention
  • Holding elected officials accountable for anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric
  • Policy advocacy campaigns
  • Art and cultural events to transform the culture of Orange County to one that honors immigrant communities, holds accountable those who do not, and builds solidarity between Vietnamese and immigrant communities

YOUTH ORGANIZING

Youth organizing is the process of engaging young people in building power for systemic change while supporting their individual and collective development.

We support the leadership development of young Vietnamese people through programs designed to teach them the skills for community organizing, Vietnamese history and culture, team-building, and artistic skills so that they can advance social justice in their local community in Orange County.

Our work includes:

  • Youth Organizing Fellowship
  • Youth leadership and organizing programs
  • Youth civic engagement programs
  • Regular volunteer opportunities for young people connecting arts, leadership development, civic engagement, and community organizing

CIVIC & ELECTORAL ENGAGEMENT

Our civic engagement work aims to build political power for working class Vietnamese and immigrant communities by ensuring that our community members are fully informed, engaged, and become the most important participants in shaping local government, policy-making, and elections.

Our work includes:

  • Trainings to learn how to canvass, text, and phone bank local neighborhoods about elections, policies, and local issues
  • Ballot measure and candidate forums
  • Research and surveys that uplift and analyze the Vietnamese community’s experience and perspectives on social issues, local politics and governance and its impact on our community
  • Bi-lingual (English & Vietnamese) voter registration efforts and voter outreach for every election and more

VIETNAMESE ART & CULTURE

As Vietnamese people in the U.S., with our stories constantly told for us, we aim to inform generations of Vietnamese American people about who we are, where we come from, and the full complexities of our migration histories. We want Vietnamese people in Orange County to see our culture and histories portrayed with truth and dignity.

We provide Vietnamese history, arts, and culture teach-in workshops and incorporate it into all of our campaigns and programs.

Our work include:

  • Political Tours of Little Saigon
  • Past to Present: Empowerment through our Viet Stories workshops
  • And interactive arts and cultural events, and more

COVID-19 RESPONSE

COVID-19 has exacerbated the economic, housing, immigration, and infrastructure crisis that has already been harming, displacing, and deporting community members.

Since lockdown, we formed the OC COVID-19 Community Response Team, distributed over $450,000 to undocumented community members who were excluded from federal relief, and signed up over 100 community members for vaccines. More resources below:
